GREAT INVERSION

2018
Blue bronze and cast aluminum sculptures and projection
4 x 4 x 2m approx.

In the aerial installation, Gran Inversión (2018) bronze and aluminium, blue and silver sculptures, gravitate in a central space in a subtle interactive Platonic cave. The suspended shapes form a circle or ellipse like an orbit, these pieces were originally created in 1996. At that time I captured a series of negative spaces of my own body to create the twenty-seven wax sculptures. Some have been developed in aluminium and other have evolved into the series of blue bronzes to form these primal beings from another time. A projection lights them up and interacts when the viewer passes by, and models an oceanic underworld in which past and present are inverted and the shadows come to life.
