PRIMORDIAL BEINS

2023
marker ink on hand-treated paper dyed with plants and fungi
32 x 300 cm

The installation ‘Primordial Beings’ (1996-2023) brings together twelve drawings that form the backbone of a large skeleton; through ethereal, dotted lines, characteristic of the artist’s automatic drawing style, anthropomorphic beings encapsulated in transparencies can be glimpsed.

The series reveals a whole evolution of imagined beings: Lamia (a deity from Basque mythology who lives in streams), single-celled organisms, prokaryotic cells, goddesses, etc. This imaginary world of beings and forms dynamically adapts to a land or world in motion and fluctuation. The paper support has been previously intervened by hand, impregnating the imprint of the body on it, so that the body and skin transfer micro-folds and tears to the surface, giving it a geo-biological texture on which to engrave the vulnerability of the earth.
