The Vanguardia Gallery in Bilbao, directed by Petra Perez, presents the exhibition “Axis Mundi”  curated by Ana Salaverria, by artist Pilar Soberón which focuses on establishing a connection between the primordial elements, based on the phenomenology of nature, particularly energy and the element Air, to reflect on the intangible and the spiritual. 

Time seems to stand still in the installation entitled “Twister” (2024), where the violent aspect of the air activates a connection between the planes of earth and sky, through a wind tunnel that, like a golden channel, connects earth and air. The piece is surrounded by agate minerals that circulate like asteroids . In this sense, the idea that the universe is a fluctuation of emptiness and that emptiness is the channel that allows energy and information to be transmitted is experienced.

Of the four elements, Air involves freedom and movement and is captured in pieces with swirls, clouds and wings. The fifth element, called Ether or energy, seeks the quintessence, the soul and energy, as appreciated in “Essential Forest” 2022. This work was created specifically for Zaha Hadid’s high-speed train station in Naples, Honourable Mention in EAC 2023. It began as a manifesto to preserve and exalt one of the largest living organisms in existence – the Forest – through the idea of a nature that feels, that develops by feeling.
