2019.07.11 – 2019.09.11

In the contemporary art competition ‘Biennal d’Art 2019. 41st Tapiró Painting Prize. 39th Julio Antonio Sculpture Prize’, the work “Remembrar a Osiris” (2019) was selected as a finalist, a sculpture that fluidly fuses sculpture, engraving, photography, drawing and ceramics.  The competition is organised by the Provincial Council of Alicante and the Tarragona Museum of Contemporary Art, where the exhibition will be held from 11 July 2019 to 11 September 2019.

The jury is composed of Teresa Grandas, Curator of Exhibitions at the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA); Sonsoles Hernández Barbosa (PhD and professor in the Department of Historical Sciences and Art Theory, University of the Balearic Islands, and at the Visual Studies Research Institute, University of Southern California); Margarita Pérez-Villega (PhD, Caixa Forum Palma); and Piedad Solans Blanco (PhD in Art History, researcher and curator).

Drawing, photography and sculpture articulate a unique and ancestral language that generates life. The expressive possibilities and language of each discipline are harmoniously integrated into a single piece that can be understood as photography with intervention, sculpture with photography or engraving on photography. It is a reflection of Lucio Fontana’s spatial concept, incorporating new languages, opening up the debate to other artistic disciplines and focusing on installation as an artistic medium.

In the richness of biodiversity and the evolution of nature, of cells, plants and animals, there is an essence imbued with energy that permeates Pilar Soberón’s work, a potential to be and to grow, to evolve.  The work “Remembrar a Osiris” focuses precisely on this spirit of growth and development that also permeates all artistic creation.

The piece demonstrates, through its working process, a respect for nature and its cycles. The seeds are collected in a sustainable manner during walks, gathering a small portion before the harvest. In this sense, the work highlights the importance of preserving biodiversity and is aligned with Goal 15 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, and reverse deforestation and forest degradation.
